GE Historical Society membership a great gift for the holidays
The Glen Ellen we know today began in 1882, with the arrival of the railroad. Eldridge and Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) were founded soon after, and the two communities have grown up together, side by side, ever since. With SDC’s imminent closure, Glen Ellen’s future also becomes more uncertain. The Glen Ellen Historical Society is deeply involved in this transformation and is collaborating with other local organizations to preserve SDC’s rich history and the story it tells about the changing attitudes towards and treatment of people with mental and developmental disabilities.
A holiday gift which will help carry the best of Glen Ellen and the SDC into the future is membership in the Glen Ellen Historical Society. Members receive the quarterly newsletter Tales of Glen Ellen, attend public presentations, and take part in the ongoing discussion of our local legacy.
General membership is $25 a year. Students and seniors may join for $15 a year. A lifetime membership is $250. Businesses may become supporting members for $100 a year. Fellowship and patron memberships are $500 and $1,000 respectively.
Other holiday gift possibilities which will benefit the Society include:
