Get ready for Grand Ole Opry

Kenwood School gala less than a month away

Details are falling into place for the gala Lights Camera Auction fundraiser on April 23 to support Kenwood School. This year’s event is shaping up to be the most fun ever, with a rocking country theme and delicious local food and wine. Tickets are $100 and are available now at kef.schoolauction.net/lca2016 or in the Kenwood School office. Get yours now before it sells out.

Event organizer Regina Rolland and her team of parents hope that the Grand Ole Opry-themed party will raise at least $100,000 for art, music, classroom aides, and more at Kenwood School. This year’s fund-a-need “raise your paddle” promotion will support STEAM education – interdisciplinary science, technology, arts, and math.

Organizers are bringing in new silent and live auction lots with broad appeal, focusing on adventure and travel. Since many people plan summer getaways at this time of year, why not plan your travel and support the school at the same time? The auction will feature packages to Sayulita, Mexico (with airline miles credits), Tahoe, Brooklyn, New York, and possibly a special Nashville vacation package to fit with the Grand Ole Opry theme. There’s also a “date night for the year” live auction package with 12 restaurant gift certificates, which was one of the top auction items last year.

The auction is a terrific place to stock up on local wines for your cellar, as Sonoma Valley wineries are always very generous in supporting Kenwood School. There will be beer from sponsor Lagunitas Brewery and specialty cocktails using high-end craft vodka from sponsor Hanson of Sonoma Organic Vodka. Organizers scored a major hit in 2015 with the “will your key open our wine cabinet?” promotion, so this year’s attendees can again look forward to the chance to win a cabinet full of cellar-worthy wines with a value of $2,400.

The event, from 4:30-10 p.m., is conveniently located in downtown Kenwood at beautiful Kenwood Farms & Gardens on Highway 12. Dinner will be family style under the tent: garlic-crusted tri-tip, salad, veggies, pasta, and homemade pies for dessert. Finish up the night partying to country western band Twang Ditty in the rustic barn. (Those in the know can also head to the informal after-party at Palooza. All are welcome, and who can resist fries and karaoke at midnight?)

Childcare is available at Kenwood School from 4 p.m. to midnight. There’s a sleepover party theme, so kids, bring your stuffies and sleeping bags. Babysitters are available starting at 4 p.m.

See you on April 23 in your best Grand Ole Opry garb!
