Happy New Year, everyone!
Amy & Jesse
Aimee Fagent and Jesse D’Spain were married on Dec. 18 in San Diego
Aimee Fagent, who grew up in Kenwood and is the daughter of Carolee and Dennis Fagent, married Jesse D'Spain on Dec. 18 in San Diego. It was a cool, crisp day for the outdoor ceremony overlooking the water. Carolee writes, “The ceremony was magical, including a harp, violin, and dance performance, and was officiated by two pastors who have each known the couple for many years. At the reception Aimee surprised Jesse with a “flash mob dance,” including her bridesmaids and friends, and he surprised her with a rap song he wrote for her. The couple drove away in a Model T, and spent a romantic honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta before settling into their new home in San Diego.” Congratulations, Aimee and Jesse!

And congratulations to Greta and George MacLeod who celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Jan. 2. Wow! The MacLeods moved to Kenwood about 40 years ago and grow grapes and make wine on their Kenwood property, Indian Springs Ranch. So raise a glass of MacLeod Sauvignon blanc or Zinfandel to George and Greta!

Rotary Check
Daniel Drab, center, accepts a $500 check on behalf of Becoming Independent. He is flanked by John LemMon, left, and Jimmy Galvin, right.

The Rotary Club of Glen Ellen-Kenwood had a fun holiday/end of the year celebration at the home of Catherine and Dave Jefferson on Dec. 21. A highlight of the party was when club president John LemMon presented a check for $500 to Becoming Independent (BI). The donation was in honor of longtime club sponsor Jimmy Galvin, and it was accepted on behalf of BI by Catherine's brother Daniel Drab, himself a very happy client of Becoming Independent. Besides giving away money, the club also collected and gave away 32 gently-used winter coats, some toys, and food to FISH (Friends in Sonoma Helping). Thanks, Rotarians!

Bobcat nap
A bobcatnap?

You've heard of a catnap, but how about a bobcatnap? On Jan. 9 Barbara Katona and Paul Simpson emailed this photo of a bobcat asleep in the tree outside their Wild Oak home, right by the kitchen window. Barbara said, “He captured a turkey yesterday and I guess he decided to stay.” We probably shouldn't be too surprised given how close they are to Trione-Annadel State Park, but still it's pretty unusual and exciting!

PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter JO is at it again, awarding scholarship money to worthy students. Andrea Garfia, a graduate student at USF, is the most recent recipient of a $1,800 Program for Continuing Education grant from PEO. This grant is awarded to outstanding women who have returned to college after having been away from school for 24 months. Garfia is studying for a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in health services. Philanthropy Chairman Eleanore Schiro of Oakmont presented the check to her at the PEO meeting on Jan. 5. For more information about PEO scholarships and loans, go

Luka and Elsa in Munich
Cousins Luka Amand, center, Elsa Scheftner, right, and a very tired Ayla Scheftner enjoy Munich at Thanksgiving.
Greetings from Bavaria! Lenny Clayburg, Lisa Scheftner, and their daughters Elsa and Ayla Scheftner, along with Lisa's sister Veronika Scheftner, Noel Amand, and their daughter Luka Amand, were in Germany over Thanksgiving. Lenny said, “We stayed two weeks in Bad Tolz, an hour south of Munich. Lisa and Veronika's 'Opa' grew up near Bad Tolz and their Aunt Trudi still lives there. We visited cousins and had a wonderful time. Bavaria is so beautiful.” Here's a cute picture of the cousins in Munich (page 23). Looks like little Ayla's had too much fun!

Hardys and Sabourins
Pete and Cathy Hardy and Dennis and Micki Sabourin in Zion National Park.
Also last fall, Pete and Cathy Hardy and Dennis and Micki Sabourin went to Utah and Arizona, visiting Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, and Antelope Slot Canyon. If you've never seen that part of the country, put it on your bucket list because it's breathtaking.

Reindeer at KCC
Santa’s helpers (L. to R.) Lucas Felciano, AJ Felciano and Oliver Seyms at Kenwood Community Church.
Closer to home, on Dec. 3, Santa's Helpers arrived by reindeer and sleigh at the Kenwood Community Church's “Gingerbread House Extravaganza.” Approximately 60 people participated in the annual event, which was ably coordinated by Linda Salomon.

Local author Jean Wong gave a talk last month at Sonoma State University about the '70s, in which she read excepts from her forthcoming book Hurtling Jade and Other Tales of Personal Folly. She says that while she did attend classes at SSU, “In those “hippy” days you didn't have to be registered or pay anything, you just walked in and took any class!”

Mark your calendar for the Kenwood Community Club's upcoming Oscar Night Party at the Depot. It's Sunday, Feb. 26, starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are $30, which includes food and one drink ticket. Come dressed as your favorite actor. Fill out an Oscar ballot and you could be the big winner! For more information and the all-important ballot, go to Tickets are available online and at the Kenwood Press office.

Did you know that there's a weather station at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park? It's at the Robert Ferguson Observatory and there's even a web cam. Check it out at
