Local season opening at Morton’s

Morton’s Warm Springs is gearing up for a new season, and is kicking things off with a social event for locals.

Morton’s owners and staff are extending an invitation to the community to join them on Sunday, May 7, 1-6 p.m., in a neighborly welcome for an afternoon of sunshine, food and family fun at their annual Locals’ Warm Spring Social – A Neighborhood Picnic. Spend the day at Morton’s connecting with community and neighbors, both old and new. The spring-fed geothermal mineral pools will be open for swimming and there’ll be fun games and activities for the whole family.

There is no charge for this event, but in order to get a headcount, please register at When you arrive at the gate, say the word “community” and bring a potluck dish for admission for you and your family. Morton’s will have non-alcoholic beverages on hand. Bring your lawn games, kids games, musical instruments, etc. If you would like to volunteer for this community event, call 833-5511, or email

The official opening day for Morton’s is Saturday, May 13, just in time for Mother’s Day. Take a load off and come on down for that first dip of the summer.

Morton’s is already accepting reservations for groups and events for the summer season, and once again you can purchase a Morton’s Season Membership for the entire summer (through Sept. 30) as either a “Solo,” “Duet,” or “Family,” or you may want to support their restoration efforts with a “Legacy” membership – where some of your membership fees are a tax-deductible donation to their nonprofit initiative, Restore the Springs.

Sculptor Jeff Kahn at Sculpturesite

Sculpturesite in Jack London Village is now displaying three kinetic sculptures by artist Jeff Kahn.
Kinetic sculpture
Jeff Kahn’s kinetic sculpture “Transcending Tides” at Jack London Village in Glen Ellen.

Kahn’s current kinetic sculpture collection, Unseen Forces, explores balance and gravity and the way almost imperceptible air currents interact with them.

“The best part is assembling the finished sculpture and watching how it takes on a life of its own, often moving in ways I hadn’t anticipated,” he says.

Kahn has been making sculpture for over 40 years, since attending Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, where he studied furniture design, jewelry and experimental sculpture in different mediums including wood, metal, glass and electronics. Kahn’s aluminum sculptures “Transcending Tides,” “I Ching” and “3 Moons Rising” are all on display.

Sculpturesite is located at 14301 Arnold Dr. in Glen Ellen. Call 933-1300, or go to Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jonsai workshop at Wildwood

Wildwood Nursery is continuing its Second Saturday events on May 13, 1-4 p.m., with a demonstration of jonsai planting style by Jon Forney.

The jonsai philosophy combines the art of bonsai with a casual California coastal flair. Containers range from boxes made of driftwood to coconut shells. Forney, now of Sonoma, draws on his background in Hawaii and Southern California to select the appropriate plant for the container.

Watch as he creates several different jonsai arrangements. His planting repertoire spans regions and zones: tropical to alpine and fronds to leaves. His demonstration will be set to a custom background music mix.

Jonsai plantings are ideal for indoor use and small spaces.

Materials will be available for purchase after the presentation. Take advantage of special pricing on maples and ginkgo suitable for jonsai arrangements.

For more information, call 833-1161. Wildwood Nursery is located at 10300 Sonoma Hwy. in Kenwood.
