Oakmont artists win multiple awards

The Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County (AWS) hosted the Apple Blossom Festival Art Show April 18 and 19. A popular tradition, this annual art show featured more than 170 new works by AWS members.

Seven Oakmont artists won a total of 13 awards in five media categories, plus Kathy Byrne won the Founder’s Award for her watercolor, “The Knot.”

Gail Radice won first prize and an honorable mention for her oil paintings. In the acrylic category, Peggy Halter won second place and Trula LaCalle was awarded two honorable mentions. Susan Berg won first and Kathy Byrne second place ribbons for their watercolors. In pastels, Phil Wilkinson won second prize and Valerie Koppala Gardiner took home third prize and an honorable mention. Wilkinson also made an impressive showing in photography, with second place and honorable mention awards.

The Oakmont Art Association is gearing up for their annual Open Studios tour, June 23-25. The majority of the Oakmont Apple Blossom Art Festival winners will be opening their studios for the event, with a total of 32 artists showing their work at that time.
