County seeks members for citizenís pension committee

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has established a new committee to advise the Board on pension related matters and is encouraging community members to apply. The goal of the Independent Citizenís Pension Committee is to provide recommendations that will further the Boardís efforts to ensure a more fair, equitable, and sustainable County pension system. The committee is intended to bolster community engagement, add insight and value to a challenging and complex process, and build an improved understanding for all parties.

The Committee will be composed of seven individuals who will be appointed in July 2017 and will be asked to serve either two-year or three-year staggered terms, with an anticipated time commitment of eight to 10 hours per month to attend meetings and review materials. Ideal committee members will have the ability and commitment to listen and weigh information with an open mind, engage and fully participate in the development of recommendations.

Since much of the information related to pension systems is of a financial nature, demonstrated aptitude in dealing with financial information would be very helpful.

Interested individuals should submit a special Independent Citizenís Pension Committee application form by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22. The application form is on the Countyís website: For more information concerning the listed vacancies, contact the Board of Supervisors Office at 575 Administration Dr., Room 100A, Santa Rosa, CA, 95403, call 565-2241, or email
