We gather together...
St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church’s Interim Priest Karen King spoke to the crowd on Nov. 12 at the gazebo in Plaza Park. Approximately 450 people gathered at the park for an afternoon to support first responders and to reconnect with friends at a time when the collective trauma of the wildfires is still raw. The day featured music, expressions of thanks to firefighters, a number of speakers including Kenwood Fire Chief Daren Bellach, and plenty of food and drink – a nice respite for the town. A fire boot sitting on the bar collected over $11,000 for the Kenwood Firefighters Association. Glen Ellen and the Mayacamas fire departments held similar gatherings in early November. After the fires, many neighborhoods and communities held get-togethers to touch base, reflect on the prior devastating weeks, and plan for the future. On Nov. 4, residents of the Trinity Road/Cavedale Road areas met at Silver Cloud Vineyards for fellowship, and to praise the heroic efforts of the Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD). The Glen Ellen Forum organized an event on Nov. 5 for Glen Ellenites. Hundreds of people came to enjoy food, drink, and friendship in the parking lot of the Garden Court Café.
