Music appreciation class in Oakmont starts


Oakmont Gardens

Come to Oakmont Gardens, 301 White Oak Dr., for a free music appreciation class, “Classical and Popular Music Explorations.” The class meets in the private dining room, 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., on the following Thursdays: Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, Nov. 6, 13, and 20, and Dec. 4, 11, and 18.

Sept. 18 – Introduction to opera buffa and opera seria, with excerpts from the first classical opera: La Serva Pedrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

Sept. 25 - Mozart’s Fantasy in D Minor and selections from his operas Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutee.

During the fall semester, classes focus on music from the Classical and Romantic eras. Participants will sing some popular songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s, and hear some live piano music, as well as choral, orchestral, and chamber music on CDs. Large-print song texts will be provided for singing one or more popular songs each time.

This free class is sponsored by Santa Rosa Junior College. No fee is required. You may enroll at the class location during any class meeting. For more information, call Mae Lucas at 508-8781.
