Search for music director topic at SIR #53
Wednesday August 23rd 2017 -
Alan Silow, president and CEO of the Santa Rosa Symphony, will focus on the international search for its next music director at the Aug. 23 luncheon of Sons in Retirement Branch (SIR) #53.
The current director, Bruno Ferrandis, will depart at the end of the orchestra’s 2017-2018 season. He is only the fourth music director in the symphony’s history.
The symphony’s Board of Directors began its search in December of 2015, according to Silow, “to find the right person to further realize our vision of raising our national profile as one of America’s leading regional symphony orchestras.” Silow, president and CEO since 2002 and an Oakmont resident, will explain how the process has unfolded to date, introduce with a short film about the five candidates, and discuss the next steps that will include community input into the final decision by the board in March, 2018.
During Silow’s tenure the symphony has returned to a fiscally sound basis that has produced surpluses in both operations and endowment annually for 15 years. He also played a leadership role in the public/private partnership with Sonoma State University to build the Green Music Center, now the symphony’s permanent home.
SIR Branch #53 meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Oakmont’s East Recreation Center, 7902 Oakmont Dr. A social hour starts at 11 a.m. with luncheon at noon catered by the Oakmont Market. Any Oakmont man interested in attending this presentation and/or membership should contact Dave McCuan at 539-3028.
