JL Yacht Club reveals racing boats

Jack London Lodge

Saturday April 27th 2019 - 2:00pm to

The first-ever Jack to Jack boat race, put on by the new Jack London Yacht Club, is coming up on April 27, but the club is offering a first-peek at the sleek boats that will race down the creek on Sunday, April 14.

On Jack London Saloon patio at 2 p.m. the sail designs will be revealed, race rules reviewed, and GPS explained. There will be a lottery to determine which heat and creek position boat owners will have.

There will be a taco bar and lots of fun. Tickets are $30 and can be bought at

The April 27 Jack to Jack race takes place in Glen Ellen, from the Jack London Lodge, creekside, to the Jack London Village, creekside, a .7 mile course. The boats are replicas of Jack Londonís Snark.

There are several heats during the day. Each heat takes approximately 30 minutes. Winners from each heat participate in the final race to determine the yearís winner.

The yacht club is a nonprofit organization of volunteers that supports our local nonprofits and public entities, and builds community through fundraising efforts and engagement in the Valley of the Moon.

Proceeds from the Jack London Yacht Club go back to the community in the form of grants. Grant applications are available now on the clubís website.

You must be a nonprofit or local Sonoma County public agency to be eligible. Based on needs and available funding, grants are anticipated to range from $500 to $3,000.

Grants will be presented to recipients at a reception in June.
