Seed propagation workshop at Quarryhill
Friday October 18th 2019 -
Would you like to take a little bit of Quarryhill Botanical Garden home with you for fall planting in your garden? You can. Join Quarryhill Nursery Manager Samantha Myhre on either Friday, Oct. 18, or Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon for a propagation workshop on seeds.
Growing plants from seed presents the opportunity for variation in the population, as each seedling is genetically distinct from its parents. Gathering and sowing seeds is an easy way to propagate large numbers of plants and is the only way to propagate some species outside of lab environments. This workshop will cover how to collect, clean, and sow seeds from six species of plants in the garden, including perennials, shrubs, and small trees. You will also learn about seed germination and how different plants have special requirements before their seeds will grow.
The fee is $35 for Quarryhill members; $40 for non-members. Class size is limited. Please register in advance at quarryhillbg.org/propagationworkshopseeds.html.
Quarryhill is located at 12841 Sonoma Hwy. in Glen Ellen. For more information go to quarryhillbg.org.
