Advance care planning topic at SIR #53
Wednesday October 23rd 2019 -
Brian Griffiths, a palliative care social worker at Kaiser Permanente, will speak about advance care planning at the Oct. 23 luncheon of Sons in Retirement Branch #53 at Oakmont’s East Recreation Center.
Griffiths will explore issues including examining one’s values, wishes for health care, and ensuring that there is proper documentation and clarity about medical decision-making. He will focus on Advance Health Care Directives and review the issues that are important to consider when preparing or revising these documents. He will also review “do not resuscitate” orders.
Griffiths received his dual Masters in Social Work and Public Health from U.C. Berkeley and has focused on medical social work practice, helping people with serious illnesses cope with challenges and plan for their lives.
Branch #53 meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the East Rec Center, 7902 Oakmont Dr. A social hour starts at 11 a.m. with luncheon at noon catered by A La Heart Catering. Any Oakmont man interested in attending this presentation and/or membership should contact Dave McCuan at 539-3028. Ladies are welcome at 1 p.m. to hear the speaker.
