Horszowski Trio plays in Oakmont

Oakmont Berger Center

Thursday November 14th 2019 - 1:30pm to

The Horszowski Trio takes its inspiration from the musicianship, integrity, and humanity of the pre-eminent pianist Mieczyslaw Horszowski (1892-1993); the ensemble's pianist Rieko Aizawa was Horszowski's last piano student at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. In New York City, Aizawa met violinist Jesse Mills and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, who had a decades-long musical partnership going back to their days at Juilliard and Marlboro. The three immediately felt the spark of a unique connection. On Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m., in Oakmont's Berger Center, the Trio will present a varied program of works by Haydn, Elliot Carter, and Shostakovich.

Described as “power players” by the Los Angeles Times and “the most compelling American group to come on the scene” by the New Yorker magazine, the Trio performs works by many of the composers with whom Horszowski had personal interaction, including Fauré, Granados, Martinu, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, and Villa-Lobos.
