Hike the Johnson Ridge Trail

Hood Mountain Regional Park - Pythian Entrance

Saturday October 24th 2009 - 9:45am to 4:00pm

On Saturday, Oct. 24, join Dave & Bill in hiking the relatively new Johnson Ridge Trail at Hood Mountain Regional Park. Meet at 9:45 a.m. for a prompt 10 a.m. departure. Our plans are to hike from just north of Hwy. 12 up to the Hood Mountain Trail, cross over to the Hood Mountain summit, enjoy Gunsight Rock for a late lunch, and return. This is a strenuous hike of 11 miles with an elevation gain of 2,400 feet, and will last approximately 6 hours. Plan to wear layered clothing and sturdy hiking shoes. Bring a lunch and plenty of liquids, and remember we hike rain or shine. Directions: Turn north off of Highway 12 at Pythian Road. Angle left onto Rancho Los Guilicos Road and park at the first parking lot on the right.

We encourage you to carpool if possible. Anyone wishing to carpool can meet at the St. Francis (Safeway) Shopping Center in Santa Rosa for a prompt 9:20 a.m. departure. The meeting place is in the corner of the parking lot nearest the Calistoga Rd. and Hwy. 12 intersection. This is a “leaderless” carpool meeting place. It’s up to those who are there to organize the carpool. For more information, call Bill Myers, at 833-6288, or Dave Chalk at 539-8847, or you can access the “Dave & Bill Hikes” web page at

“Dave & Bill Hikes” are sponsored by Sonoma County Regional Parks, California State Parks, and Valley of the Moon Natural History Association.
