Bee seminar

Bouverie Audubon Preserve

Saturday June 5th 2010 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm

Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR), will host a science salon focusing on the status and plight of Sonoma County’s bees and other pollinators on June 5, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., at its Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen. The event will feature a panel of leading experts in the field and will be followed by a “meet the scientists” cocktail reception from 4-6 p.m.

Bees in Sonoma County and beyond have suffered a steep decline in recent years. Scientists have been studying the causes and impacts that the loss of bees could have to native ecosystems and food supplies around the world.

Speakers at the symposium will include Dr. Gordon Frankie, Professor and Research Entomologist, UC Berkeley Division of Insect Biology, College of Natural Resources; Dr. Robbin Thorp, Professor Emeritus, UC Davis Department of Entomology; and Ellen Zagory, Director of Horticulture, UC Davis Arboretum.

“Audubon Canyon Ranch is committed to habitat protection and restoration, and scientific research to better understand our local and regional ecosystems,” said Scott Feierabend, executive director of ACR. “With bees and other pollinators such a critical factor in the health of local ecosystems and biodiversity, Audubon Canyon Ranch is bringing some our foremost science leaders to Bouverie Preserve to discuss pollinators, plants, and how we can work together for solutions.”

The cost is $45. Please RSVP by May 28, by calling 415-868-9244, or email RSVP@egret.org.
