Hood Mountain Hike

Hood Mountain Regional Park - Pythian Entrance

Saturday October 23rd 2010 - 10:00am to

This Saturday, October 23, join Bill & Dave in a hike of the relatively new Johnson Ridge Trail at Hood Mountain Regional Park. Please meet at 9:45am for a prompt 10am departure. Plans are to hike from just north of Highway 12 up to the Hood Mountain Trail, cross over to the Hood Mountain summit, and enjoy Gunsight Rock for a late lunch and return. This is a very strenuous hike of 11 miles with an elevation gain of 2400 feet, and will last approximately 6 hours. Plan to wear layered clothing and sturdy hiking shoes. Bring a lunch and plenty of liquids, and remember we hike rain or shine. DIRECTIONS: Turn north off of Highway 12 at Pythian Road. Angle left onto Rancho Los Guilicos Road and park at the first parking lot on the right.
Please carpool if possible. As the group continues to grow, parking can be a problem on occasion. Anyone wishing to carpool can meet at the St. Francis (Safeway) shopping center in Santa Rosa for a prompt 9:30am departure. The meeting place is in the corner of the parking lot nearest the Calistoga Road and Highway 12 intersection. This is a “leaderless” carpool meeting place i.e. it’s up to those who are there to organize the carpool.
As always, there will be a cooler filled with potables to facilitate "tailgate socializing" in the parking lot after the hike.
Please call Dave at 539-8847 with any questions.
