Bucket Brigade blood drive

The Kenwood Fire Protection District and the Glen Ellen Fire Protection District will be co-hosting the 5th Annual Bucket Brigade blood drive on Dec. 1, 3:30-7:30 p.m. at the Glen Ellen Fire Station, 13455 Arnold Drive.

Each year, fire departments in Lake, Mendocino, and Sonoma counties hold blood drives to see who will win the coveted Bucket Brigade trophy. The notion of a Bucket Brigade originates from the Great London Fire of 1666, where lines of townspeople created “brigades” and passed buckets of water from the town’s water source to the fires that threatened their community. This contemporary Bucket Brigade brings communities together in the same way, not to fight fire but to save lives through blood donation.

All donors will receive a special Bucket Brigade T-shirt.

To register to give blood on Dec. 1, call the Blood Bank of the Redwoods, 545-1222. Walk-ins are welcome as well. For more information about giving blood, go to
