Bouverie Preserve hosts mushroom workshop


Bouverie Audubon Preserve

Saturday February 26th 2011 - 9:30am to 2:00pm

On Saturday, February 26, from 9:30am to 2 pm, Bouverie Preserve biologist Jeanne Wirka will lead a class on mushrooms and their relatives. Participants will learn about the irreplaceable role that fungi play in our local ecosystem as well as basic identification techniques. The day will start with a brief classroom discussion of types of fungi and how to search them out. Then the group will explore known mushroom spots at the Preserve to see specimens up close. Please note, this is not a collecting class—no mushrooms will be harvested nor will mushroom edibility be discussed (contact the Sonoma Mycological Association if you want to go on a collecting foray.
The Bouverie Preserve is located at 13935 Sonoma Highway in Glen Ellen.
Class size is limited. Cost is $25 per seminar.
